The "consultation" period is outrageously short. We can counter this by mobilising massive objection to the proposed desecration of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can help enormously by e-mailing a link to this website to anyone and everyone you know who cares about Coldharbour, Leith Hill and the environment and asking them to register. You can use our tell your friends form or simply copy and paste (and edit as you wish) the following text into your own e-mail client.
Dear All,
Believe it or not, but there's a planning application to explore for oil and gas in Coldharbour (top of Leith Hill). This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but govenment guidance to planning authorities (in this case Surrey County Council) is that they may permit this (subject to certain conditions) "in the national economic interest".
If this application gets approved it will lead to 30+ HGVs a day through Dorking and up Coldharbour Lane - and the desecration of some lovely ancient woodlands.
